Fuel Gauge is fogging up and no longer working. What kind of British wizardry makes this thing tick? Really haven't looked into it much, thought I'd run it by the experts . Pics coming soon. Thanks in advance.

I assume you are referring to the fuel gauge on a Series II with original gauges. Series I and II gauges are totally different than SIII- SV gauges. I have never actually worked on earlier gauges but here are 2 articles I have studied,

Note the schematic drawing at the bottom of the first article. What are drawn as resistors on the left side of the drawing are actually coils. These coils and the other two resistors form an accurate "bridge" arrangement of these magnetic coils. Most importantly , note that the resistor in the upper right of the drawing is actually a variable resistor that is the sender in the fuel tank. Note also the resistor in the lower right. Note it is grounded. The most common cause of these gauges, including the Temp gauge, not working is the loss of connection to the sender, or even more commonly the sender losing its ground connection.

Do a search here on Sender and see how others have found and fixed the ground connections on their senders.

P.S couple more thoughts. 1. If the gauge lamp is working, you can be pretty sure that the resistor in the lower right is grounded. If no lamp light, almost surely you have lost ground here..

2. I assume you have a schematic that shows the wiring and wire colors in your car. if not there is one here on this site. Heres a link
