I need to set my points. I know they are supposed to be gapped at .015 or something like that, but What is the Dwell supposed to be if using a dwell meter ???

I have 'nt set the dwell for years, though a good way to really get it. I set the points , then use a timing light to double check that , then ..... But to properly time and dwell always disconnect the vacume hose and plug it. letting the distributer float. time and set the dwell.
For minor adjusting of either can be done with the scale adjuster on the distributer, read the book on the usage of that.
BUT if you have electronic ignition,, for get the setting of the points
