Coolant reservoir repair

The cast aluminum coolant reservoir on my Series II has boogered threads where the screws hold the pressure relief valve in place. A PO used sheet metal screws as his solution to the problem. I plan to use heli-coils for SST 10-24 socket head cap screws to set it straight. Before I possibly mess this up beyond recovery, does anyone see a down-side to my solution?

Do the threaded holes go into the where the water is? If so it will corrode badly because of the dissimilar metals; if not it should work out well.

Alternatively you can have the holes welded and re-tapped,
