ARI Master Brake Cylinder 83-16401

Here are a few PIC's of a master brake cylinder I have that looks as if it will "fit" the Alpine with the V6 and give adequate clearance. However I know nothing about it other than it is new in the box. Guess it came in my possession thru some trade I have forgotten:)

ANyone know anything as to make, model, year vehicle it fits?

Here are the numbers from the box in which it came:

That's one of my problems!

Can't tell because there's no markings that defines what it is.

Even the box hasn't any other than what I posted.

USing my MIC it reads .749 ... so it has to be a 3/4" dia bore

Jim, I don't believe the larger fluid container will work due to the spacing between the rear pressure line and the firewall, but I will go out to the garage and check!

OK! Here are a couple Pictures I just took after you posed your question.

There is adequate spacing and clearance between the Cylinder and the valve covers at least in this V6 Conversion of mine! I looked very closely at Blue Boy and it also looks good too!

Sure hope so, it has been a long time for me trying to find a dual Master cylinder for the V6 Brakes. Edit correction: ( Should have used the word Tandem in this post as per Barry's post later in this discussion).

Which would be better for the later Series Braking system without the booster 11/16 or 13/16 ?

I bought one of Victoria British Brake boosters ( 3/4 is recommended as I recall) for the Green1 (Sam's Car a SV) that is getting converted and plan to utilize a dual (correct word is tandem) brake cylinder, maybe one of these would be OK ?

Edit Note: Per Barry's expert knowledge and my nitnoy brain I used the wrong word (dual), it should be tandem.

Wouldn't using a booster with a dual cylinder create front/back balance problems?

Would it work if the res. is rotated?

Hi there Bulldurham! Hope all is well.

In this PIC:
index.php

The firewall is rather shiny and it appears that I used two 1/2" spacers. A close look though you will see only the one 1/2' THICK SPACER. I may try another spacer just to see if I can get enough room to have a larger reservoir in the rear.

If that is possible what then with the linkage being longer?

Best to leave it as is if everything hooks up with adequate spacing!

FYI, when Sunbeam started using a dual brake master in 1968 the booster was connected only to the front brakes.
I'd forgotten that. Were there other differences in the braking system to compensate? I know the front brakes do most of the work, but wouldn't boosting only the front - absent other changes - magnify that dramatically?

Sunbeam went to a complete Lockheed system instead of Girling. Different size calipers and pistons, different rear cylinders, different booster, different pads and shoes. The master also has two different size bores . Everything engineered to work together. Don't know specifics as far as bore size, etc.

260Alpine (jim) & bulldurham (Doug),

Here are a couple PICS with the reservoirs reverse positioned.

The larger in the rear is rotated half turn.

The fabled F10 everyone says is the best thing since peanut butter:)
Looks much like the Colt, except the pressure lines for the Colt are on the topside, making for a great connection.

Unless there is found something wrong with this (colt) Master Brake Cylinder, I believe it will work well with the V6 Ford Conversion.

Agree! Now to find the extra (large) one. Notice lots of the cylinders for sale without any reservoirs!

wilwood.jpg Dan, See if the Wilwood or Tilton reservoirs fit. Another similar reservoir is Nissan. Wilwood look almost identical:
