Unfortunately, about the only word that will work is wear, but the real words should be shiney ring where the cam rides. Can you imagine somewone reading tha last description and just scratching his head? The chamfer (bevel), is for oiling of the plate and cam.I just checked the Chilton Mustang II manual (also worth looking for). It has a better illustration that shows the beveled side toward the engine. It says to install the spacer with the "worn side" toward the engine. Strange choice of words.
The lifters might be OK, but the best way to check them, is to put them face to face, and if they rock just a little bit, they have the convex surface. Any good automotive machine shop can reface them for you.Sorry I brought it up, but that little piece of info helped me a lot.The cam is in and the gears are in place and the cover is about ready to go on. Still not sure what vintage the block is but I guess it doesn't matter.
Here is another one:four of the new lifters have not been polished on the cam end..as I understand it those surfaces have to be just a bit convex. Is this something a local machine shop can be trusted do or do I need to re-order 4 new ones?
You shouldn't cut out any of the gasket. The sealer is there to assure that the gasket doesn't leak at that juncture.Hi, I'm back w/ another of those ?'s that everyone knows the answer to except me.
I noticed that the two rear ports on the intake are blocked on the gasket however the gasket is printed w/ a sealer for the ports. Is this done for use on other engines and I need to cut out the ports for fitting or? what is going on here . A similar Detroit gasket does not indicate an opening at all for the ports.
I haven't found any references in the manuals to this.
Help me!
