Well my Series 1 has a spring near the vertical positioning arm as the linkage exits the bulkhead, one end is secured to a tab on the rear inlet manifold stud, the other to the carb linkage arm at the bulkhead support.

Hi New Beam, yes there should be a spring, but best to make sure it is not placing a sidewards load on the shafts through the carb body. The carbs are prone to wearing the throttle shafts in the carb body, so if you can avoid pulling the shafts against the carb body that can only be a good thing. As beam dream indicated, there are other places where a return spring works.

Cheers,
Paul.
