We have had winds before but nothing like this .... 65 to 80 mph gusts ... and variable directions ... Just got a evacuation alert for one of our eastern canyon areas ... Hopefully it won't head for our foothills just north. .. 7:15am and this is our sky line looking east.

Wow! What is in the 2025 fire 005 pic ?

SMOKEY SKIES ..... I was running errands for the wife this morning and that's a pic from our downtown area looking east. The fire is a few miles east of where we live but with the kind of winds with those gusts it's easy for it to leap frog into our canyons. More worried for some friends who live there as evac. orders went out this morning for them. The foothill cities east of us are really in bad shape ... Got called home as a power line came down in the backyard, luckily it broke at the insulator and didn't catch anything on fire. ... Sure scared the wife as she was sittin outside when it happened.

Scary stuff! I used to spend a lot of time around Eaton Canyon, and I hate to think of the area in this situation. The Santa Anas can be nasty. Stay safe.

It's been quite strange with under 10 knots of breeze on the Palos Verdes side of Santa Monica Bay. Here's the view from my hood. This is just up from the scene of Batman and the Joker from the TV series. The local channel showed some crispy Alfa Romeo parked in a driveway. Gotta think that even in a garage they'd be gone. I sometimes do a drive with the Austin Healey club guys up thru the Malibu area to Trancas market for breakfast so some areas will no longer be there. It was really insulting to hear the blame going on and that people were not insured. If you gotta loan and like the agents mom yours truly gets cancelled. You have to get the state or forced placed that's better than nothing running bare. Or the lender lays on forced placed if you have a loan so they cannot loose the value of the structure. In California the insurance commissioner places high risk areas into a pool that has limited coverage but is better than nothing.
California put artificial price controls on homeowners policies forcing them to non renew policies. Lately the companies have been allowed increases that may allow them to remain in business.

Reworded the last couple sentences of the previous post. I was in the insurance business for over 20 years. Even though things have changed some haven't. As a native I've seen Malibu and the Topanga canyon area burn since I was in grammar school, and they sent us out to recess amongst the raining ashes. The big problem is no water storage no brush management. Then there's a stupid no ICE gas lawnmowers... I don't know what I'll do with my 2 acres of brush in a fire zone in San Diego county... Keeping 100' clear is going to take a lot of batteries.

You'd be amazed at the dip___ts with trailers dragging attachment chains and the absolute lack of any brush containment along roads like the 241 toll road. When I've rolled down the window and cautioned the aforementioned DS it's, I most often get a dirty look.


Mrs. said to me a funny bit of it seen online, if that's possible. Looters that are caught will be let go if they have less than 900 dollars worth of loot. What comes to mind was the black and white of my former brother in law an Egyptian and the severity of their punishments.

(I have been an Asst. Scoutmaster for the Boy Scout troop (Troop 542B) sponsored by Supplee Presbyterian Church, in Maple Glen, PA, for over 20 years. Given the region the fires are in there will be a lot of fellow enthusiasts who have lost or are at risk of losing their beloved cars ( and more important things)

A couple of members on CAT have offered storage to fellow members who are in danger and can get their cars out... Be great if members here with the spare capacity could offer the same.

Hi all ... Just a reminder about donating .. Lots of scammers out there ... Watch out for the GoFundMe pages as there's many taking advantage of this situation. Winds aren't to bad today but the air quality is! .. It's been raining ash since yesterday. Saw the National Guard on the freeway this morning heading for some of the worst areas affected to free up law enforcement ... the scum comes out and has been targeting areas without a heavy law enforcement presence and looting the homes that have been evacuated and still standing. The Rose Bowl Stadium is set up for physical donation of clothing, food, water and more. "We're" pretty much in the middle of all the fires going on and unaffected so far as of now. Prayers to all the folks personally affected by this. There predicting an increase in the Santa Ana winds as early as Sunday.
