That picture shows the standard trunk (boot if you insist) layout for an early (Series I & II) Alpine. The fuel tank is mounted in the area below the spare tire.

Looks to be 2 cantrails for the soft [hard to find parts]; a wind screen seal, I think; hand crank, rad hose
and who knows what else.

I am in the process of restoring a '61 S II. I took my tank to a radiator repair shop. The cleaned it out, checked it out and sealed the inside of the tank. Nice job and very inexpensive.
