Looking to buy this 61 alpine and the seller sent this pic. Not sure what he’s got in the trunk, gas tank maybe???? Anyone shed any ideas on this

That picture shows the standard trunk (boot if you insist) layout for an early (Series I & II) Alpine. The fuel tank is mounted in the area below the spare tire.

Looks to be 2 cantrails for the soft [hard to find parts]; a wind screen seal, I think; hand crank, rad hose
and who knows what else.

yes.
The earlier single tank is less problematic but leaves less trunkspace compared to the later cars with the spare vertical and twin tanks.

Series 3-V use the sadle tanks.

Be careful of the early tanks.. Often rusty and very hard to find a replacement

I am in the process of restoring a '61 S II. I took my tank to a radiator repair shop. The cleaned it out, checked it out and sealed the inside of the tank. Nice job and very inexpensive.
