What gauge wire for OD solenoid

I am in the process of hooking up an overdrive unit for the Airpine and
have a fundamental question on wiring.

The problem is that the wire to the OD solenoid is too short
and must be extended to reach the OD solenoid.

I have no clue regarding electrics and would
appreciate any advice on amp and voltage
requirements for the extension.

Thanks in advance,

Allan

I'm doing mine with 14 ga wire. Pull-in current (brief, initial) is 15 to 17 A, but the sustained operating current is supposed to be 2A or less. I'm considering experimentally fusing that feed at 10A slow-blow, because of the manual's caution that continued operation while not fully actuated (and drawing that 15A) will damage the solenoid. 10A may not be the right value, but that's why it's an experiment... While you're down there, check that your braided ground strap at the trans mount is in good shape.

Got your column switch mounted? Relay made/installed?

Thanks...that is very helpful information.

I was able to re-route the harness and found
a route where the wire would reach so fortunately
the issue resolved itself, assuming the
harness that came with the OD unit is of
the correct specification.

The switch is installed as is the relay, a correct relay I
found on EBay a while ago.

I checked the ground strap as advised and
it looks ok with clean connections.

Now to hook up the wires under the dash
to the switch and to the OD warning light.

The Airpine still has a few issues to solve before
hitting the road again but thankfully the list is getting shorter.

Looks like I filed under the wrong section - mea culpa.

The post was made using a hand held phone with a small screen and I must have
hit the wrong section.
