Weber tuning saga. But happy ending.

Hopefully this is ok in stock
I asked ChatGPT to help tune my s3 stock engine alpine with a 32/36 Weber. It had a rough idle and that hesitation when the 2nd barrel opened.
Anyway chat had me do valves and timing. Great idle but hesitation worse. So then chat asked me to change jets again and again. Finally take it apart and thoroughly clean. Still the same problem. I mentioned I had a 38/38 synchronous. Chat told me to try it and gave me a list of jets and tubes to use. I changed the jets then put it on and adjusted it. Idles really well and runs like a scalded dog. Relatively speaking.
What I’m getting at here…. Chat’s summary was since my 32/36 just says “Spain” instead of “Made In Spain” like the 38, chat thinks it’s made in China and has a defect.

There are chinese made carbs.. but they wont have the weber branding.

If anyone is wondering this is the setup chat recommend for the 38
  • ✅ Weber 38/38 DGES synchronous
  • ✅ 140/140 main jets
  • ✅ 185/185 air correctors
  • ✅ F50/F50 emulsion tubes
  • ✅ 50/50 idle jets
  • ✅ 70 pump jet

The 38/38 is a lot of carb for the Alpine unless the motor's had work done on it.

First of all I’m no mechanic. Far from it. Why I asked chat.

I bought the 38 used on eBay years ago. Was more power but couldn’t get it to run well. While working on the 32/36 with chat I mentioned the 38. Chat said to try it to see if I had an engine problem or a carb problem - since with the 38 there is no transition between barrels. And gave me a list of jets to use. Gave it a good cleaning too. Right now I’m going to leave the 38 on. Runs great. When I say more power I mean for the car.

Jeb, It sounds like chat could not get your

hesitation out (of the 32/36).

And chat thought there was/is a problem with

the carb.

Did chat suggest what to do with the 32/36?

(like what eco friendly recycle center to bring it to? ;-) )

It looks like empirical data would suggest

the 38/38 carb is not too big for a 1592.

What did chat say about that?

(did chat suggest it was Your hallucination?)

That’s about right. Chat thought my 32/36 is a copy or defective. I ready don't know. Basically once I drove the 38 I wasn’t so interested in keep on trying to fix the 32/36. Get back to it one day. The old girl runs well. That’s what counts. Just need cooler weather.

Jeb, What chat Should have told you

is the 32/36 carb design IS subject to

hesitation at the transition of the

primary to secondary.

Reducing that hesitation includes,

but not limited to:

--slower throttle application,

--air/fuel curve alteration,

(that is inverse to fuel economy)

--tighter induction temp variations,

--Tuning of air filter restriction.

--testing, all of the above+.

Bottom line, unless you want better

fuel economy, stick with the 38s.

...And I wont tell Anyone it's not stock...
