V6 Conversion That Couldn't be Done

Well, simply installing the R & P will not help much. The installation is a package which becomes fairly complex. Also need to install the GM caliper. Maybe a 13/16" master cylinder. Will also need the cross flow radiator. Is there more you can do with the stock steering that would easier/cheaper but give the same results? I'm thinking something like setting the radiator forward an inch or so. Or modding the firewall.

Talk to somebody who knows what they are doing. Like maybe Jim.
Bill

Dan, I realized I was not seeing your inquirey correctly. Simply installing the R & P would solve the problem but leave you with Tiger steering issues.
Bill

Bill, In post #4 I have 2 PIC's of the radiator I had fabricated that sits with the bottom forward several inches from the stock position which makes clearance for two electric pusher fans. I decided to not try utilizing the factory fan. It was too large and had a much longer snout similar to the late 2.8 V6 in the Rangers/Broncos.

I will experiment more on the OrangeOne with hope of a better mouse trap.

Surely there is a way to make the R&P work in the Alpine without all of the Tiger steering problems.

Dan, there is a way and I think we have stumbled on to it. Many thinks to Jim and all who baby sat me through the exercise. Yes, I did it, but way beyond my level of expertise. My main contribution is the change of calipers, which was never a part of the list of required mods. Turns out it was a kind of secret sauce.
Bill

I think the GM Calipers you sent me are the correct ones, are they not?? I plan to add them to Big RED when time permits. RIght now, A4LD adjustments and some wiring is priority. I need to finish the dash trim around the steering too. Little things add up.

UPDATE: Transmission Shifter for the A4LD is aligned good and all gear selections are working fine.

Yes, they are the right ones. I thought they were a tad too big for the 3/4" master cylinder. Pedal bottomed out under hard braking. Jumped to 7/8" which restored pedal height but made the pedal too firm. 13/16" seems to be the answer.

Oh what we go through just too learn simple lessons.

Bill

I already figured the 13/16 and have the tandem cylinder master on hand. Bless you Mr Bill.

Big RED heading to Muffler Shop tomorrow morning early. Made some fine tuning, adjust float levels and kick down switch. Replaced some temporary mufflers with some Greggers gave me several years ago. Sure sound much different now, so I will get Jeff to install new exhaust system from header collector out back. I'm slow but sure. Still awaiting the completion of the fender vents. My upholstery is near complete, but some cutting and sewing will be needing adjustment before entirely complete. After more than three years getting Big RED painted I now have some extra work to touch up nicks, chips and scratches.

In the 1st PIC the AC condenser can be seen very clearly, Haven't installed the grille yet. Another little thing is the angle on the windshield is off and needs to be reset so the hard top will fit more secure around the RH door B-Post.

Dan, looks great.. and note you have performance superlites wheels

One small suggestion... Have the radiator painted /coated with one of the appropriate heat transfer paints/coatings in black... The radiator will become the focal point of the front of the car in bare aluminium and distract from the grill opening.

Installed dual exhaust by Jeff's Muffler yesterday. A few PIC's of the under carriage and completed system. Greggers gave me the mufflers some time ago. Sounds pretty good to me.

Interesting that you routed it under the battery box. I had always thought you needed to relocated the battery to free up the path used when you add a second xframe pass through. Maybe I need to rethink my 2 into 1 plan for my Alger exhaust? Of course, i have yet to add a pass through, and have not planned to.

Dan: it looks like you put some sort of insulation on the underside. What did you use?

It is labeled DEI an aluminum backed insulation that sticks to the surface you want to cover reducing heat and noise.

Aladin, Highly recommend the pass thru (Less restriction on flow also). Yes, it was routed "under" the battery box because Jeff was keen on that position. It has lots of added insulation to deflect heat away from the battery box (hopefully) :)
