I've met the owner - nice young man. Sad to see he's selling it - he seemed to really enjoy being an Alpine owner - following in his Mother's footsteps. I knew Kip's was working on it but had no idea how much he had invested.

That seems to be an awful lot of money invested just for mechanicals. Scrolling thru the interior pics I was expecting to come apon the 'after' pics of the now finished interior, but geez.

I guess the list showing parts is the invoice so take a look at the list of items R/R. 343.00 seems to be rather high for battery and cables, 195.00 for a fuel line, engine mounts @294.00 and the list goes on. check out the cost for trans seals ! did they over charge?

Based on the way the seller describes amount spent, I think he is totaling all the receipts available to him which represents some prior to the Kip restoration.
Still, 22K should have produced a car w/ a decent interior.

Nope, I was wrong. Apparently just Kip's bill.

Hate to say it but the Guy got Taken , all that work and still he has a ratty Rusty Alpine
The shop should have came up with a plan for him to spend that money wisely on the car ,this way he would have a nice driver after all that money was spent.
At Least that is what I do with my Customers

Are KIP Motors just ripoff artists? I heard the same story about a Venezia engine (same as Alpine) rebuild for $10k. Unbelievable! Are they trust worthy for parts, or also overcharging? Robert

Yeah, I heard about this shameful deal through another Sunbeam guy that sold him some parts, and tried to help him. I guess KIP charged him almost $800 just to rebuild his carbs! I was told that did not include new throtle shaft bushings or anything, just a rebuild! He could have bought NOS for $500.

They truely took advantage. Then again, they are in biz to make money.

On another note, if anyone is serious, I'll part with mine for $23,000. I've been thinking about it anyway, and this was about the lowest I would go. You get an interior, and I get Tiger resto funds. :)

...people just won't pay what it takes to get one to this level.

I disagree. It's all in where you buy and sell.

List your car on Hemmings and wait and you might get 30 or 40 thousand.

List and re-list on eBay and you'll eventually get the 23 you mention.

List here on this board and you'll be lucky to get 15. Didn't Bob B recently sell one of the nicest SIIs in existence for about that?

This forum is a buyers paradise. Everyone here already has a car. Many built the Johnny Cash way. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few of us don't have 20 plus in our cars and not even know it. And not nowhere near the condition of your SIII.

I like my Sunbeam too much to add up receipts.

it's impossible to get half of the car done for 20K if you have to farm out the body work. a good example is the RHD LeMans we have in the shop now. it was one of ian's cars and it's a 99.9 % rust free body. the labor estimate was minimum of 16K with the possibility of it going higher. that didn't include paint and material. the cost of paint is getting out of hand. the green paint on the series 4 is a DuPont paint and two years ago it was 600.00 per gallon without reducer, etc.
