to drill or not to drill

Last year I rcvd new tie rod ends for the alpine from S.S and they had no holes for pins. I went ahead and did the install and used the milar ( sp ) self locking nuts. But now I am having second thoughts about weather or not to remove them to drill the shaft and then use castleated nuts and cart. pins. Any and all feedback on the subject would help. thanks Earl bluoval

Hi Earl,

The nylock nuts are made to not loosen up. I wouldn´t worry about that. No one in their right mind would sell something that would loosen up by itself, because of law suits.

Ditto. Nyloc nuts work great and I've never seen one work loose on its own, so long as you do NOT reuse them. The only place they should not be used is wherever the fastener is being subjected to heat (above 150 degrees), since the nylon will begin to soften and lose its hold. So... head nuts are out, for example.
