I just read the latest issue-this feature is available for all Platinum and Diamond sponsors of the SAOCA.
What a great newsletter! Glenn Brackenridge wrote of how he started the Alpine Horn and then reprinted the first issue in this the 250th issue. Just like us, very few car events are going on in the UK and Jeff Howarth fixed that by having a long drive and a great pub lunch along the way for him and 20+other Sunbeams.
It makes for great reading on this Thanksgiving day! Enjoy, Eric

I found this to be very interesting on Page 12 of theArticle:

Book Review: “Classic Engines, Modern Fuel” Chris Barker

I recommend the book but I will summarise some of his conclusions. My views have been modified in some respects having read the book. Ethanol. We would be better off without it but we’re probably stuck with it. It will chemically attack brass, aluminium and some rubbers and plastics. You must use the latest rubber hose material SAE J30 R9, and avoid fibreglass tanks and liners. It seems that the SV nylon pipe is OK, so far. Ethanol’s worst drawback is that it absorbs water and can then cause an acidic layer to form beneath the fuel in your tank where it corrodes the metal. The proportion of ethanol makes little difference. Additives will combat oxidation but not this problem. Slosh Tank sealer is a good idea even in sound tanks

It was thought many years ago that filling the tank with fuel would help keep the rust out...but not anymore.

Has anyone taken apart an early series tank ? If so what were the issues w/ restoring back to original,
w/ a slosh liner?

Doug, Only Alpine tanks I have dealt with are Series IV & V's

An interesting part of the story was fiberglass is affected by ethanol

Suggest you contact the author of the Article in the SAOC. Seems to be up on gas tanks
