Sunbeam 2000 build

Everytime I started the car on a cold start it would run really rich, already changed the O2 sensor and that helped a little. I think I put the VVT valve from the 2.0 Mazda motor because of the connector on my harness. Thinking now that the VVT valve for the 2.5 is not the same, so I have one ordered along with a new valve cover gasket.

It turned out to be easier to put the original doors back on for safety and the OEM mirrors could be put back in the car. Amazing what you can see with much better mirrors!

I had the silver car for sale since I ended up building the blue one and got nothing but tire kickers and low ballers so I gave the car to my Nephews 18 year old son. Within a couple of weeks, he did this to it. Fortunately he and his passanger were not hurt!

Yes, I am glad they did not get hurt. The worst part is my Nephew told him not to drive it that day.
Father knows best.

When I was a kid my uncle had a 1967 pontiac gto. After he got married and started a family he thought he should sell it and get a more family friendly car. The guy he sold it to crashed it about a month later. My uncle bought it back and it sat under a tarp in his garage for the next ten years. As I got old enough for my first car, I started hunting for a new front clip for the GTO. I found one and approached my uncle about buying the wrecked car. He told me he felt terrible that he had just sold it. I didn't find out until years later that my mother had gotten wind of what I was up to and made her brother get rid of the car before I could buy it, because I would have clearly killed myself in such a car. She was probably correct.

Good they have walked away ok... Looks like greasy leaf linee roads... Hopefully they weren't pushing it too hard

Mike, funny you should mention that. He pretty much admited that he was drifting on those roads and tried to blame the tires after losing control. What stupid things did we do when we were 18?

I have been busy with the house updating and didn't spend much time on the car and now that the bucket list has been ticked, need to get back on it.
I like superchargers as they don't generate much heat and have a smooth power curve throughout the rpm range of the motor. Keeping my eye on a Turbo setup for the 2.5 motor wanting to give that a go as the donor also has some really nice big brakes/Calipers, bigger sway bars and some other tidbits. Will see how it goes.

Well, someone beat me to the turbo 2.5 motor. Will remove the supercharger for now to do some testing on the drivetrain and suspension.

I am glad I removed the supercharger as a vacum leak was discovered as well as an oil leak. The mating surface of the supercharger needs to be checked for trueness as well as finding out where the oil was coming from. Waiting on parts to put her back together. It appears that no matter where you order your parts from, they take forever to arrive. A sign of the times as nothing that I need is available locally.

Trying to determine where the oil came from. The front snout of the supercharger is covered in oil while the main housing is dry????
There was also one bolt that held the idler pulleys in place at the front of the motor that was coated in oil ( that one was located under the front of the supercharger).
In the meantime spent the day putting the OEM intake back on and let me tell you the EGR connection fought me the whole time.

I will have to take a look at it as I don't have much experience with this style of blower, more familiar with 6-71 and such. Pretty sure it has built in oil as there are no provisions for engine oil to be circulated to it. Thanks for your suggestion.

There are some clearance issues mounting the 2.0 intake to the 2.5 motor involving the pcv hose. I will finish putting the engine back together and see how it runs. Just in case I ordered one of these to make more power and make more room.
