Steering Wheel Repair

The steering wheel in my Tiger came from a Tiger that was stolen some years ago and when the joyride had finished the thieves proceeded to set on everything with sledgehammers . I have repaired the steering wheel glueing everything together and filling all the cracks with wood filler and then multiple layers of polyurethane . Unfortunately the wheel remains as smooth as a babies bottom for only a few months and then cracks open up and I can feel them again- I suspect its the suns heat on the wheel that does it -Anyone have a solution ? -Karl
