SIV Gas Pedal Mounting

I've been running my SIV for the last few years with a sort of hanging gas pedal, always saying that tomorrow would be the day I change it while dealing with what I deemed 'more important stuff' (Carbs, Blown Head Gasket, etc. etc. et al), and well... today is now the day.

Is there anything I need to do other than remove the broken gas pedal plate on the floorboard and install the new one? (Which I am suspicious of. The floors are solid, but they have some 'character') and hook the pedal up to the roller and pin assembly? I have all the pieces shown in the WSM in a ziploc bag.

Even better, is the suspended pedal from the early Series where it doesn't even tough the floor. Bolts right up with no mods or extra parts.

What makes it better than the floor one, outside of the potential of rusting to death?
 
What i had done as a temp fix was flip the pedal upside down and attach it to the roller and bar with cobbled up fasteners. Has held well but I don't think it comes back all the way.

Got no problem driving just that my idle has been just a hair higher in sound and maybe that's been the reason why.

The original gas pedal plate is bolted down with two bolts instead of the four used by repro.

I have considered leaving this and adding a spring to the pedal somewhere. Am I being crazy if I left this the way it is?
 
Do you have a spring installed currently on the gas pedal? Picture below was recently posted by ForzaDesign of a Series V. Series 3, IV, and V should be the same setup.

I was concerned that not having it attached to the floor would cause it to not return fully. Thank you for helping alleviate my suspicions. I am having zero issues with how Pita is running and was considering that maybe a symptom was that it needed to be bolted to the floor for it to return fully. Thank you!
