SIII Bonnet/Hood Badge

I have the original badge for my SIII and the chrome is fine but of course the plastic insert is beyond redemption. Is anyone producing replicas of these?

Cheers, Vic

I could be wrong but the SS badges in the catalogue look like the all metal ones - I have one of those. My car came with a metal base/surround that had a plastic insert. Is this right or wrong for the SIII. And if it's wrong, where can I get a repro plastic insert.

Cheers, Vic

Hi Vic,

The SIII should have the plastic insert in the chrome base as you describe. I've been trying to remember where I got mine from. Have you tried the Rudlands?

I have seen them offered by the SAOC in the UK but they wont shipto North America. I am also seeking one.

Vic

I have one somewhere, still attached to its chrome base. It came attached to the bonnet of my Series IV, but doesn't belong there. It is not mint, but pretty good. My plans for the weekend include a clean-up. If I find it I will post a picture or two.

Another thought - Malcolm Anderson, the UK Imp specialist, sells the smaller diameter ones for Imps. I'm sure I remember him telling me he buys repro Alpine ones and turns them down to fit the Imp. If you're hitting a brick wall maybe it might be worth dropping him a line. He may have some of the full size ones, or be able to tell you where he gets them.

Vic,

The S3 centre badge is the same as that on the rapier fastbacks. They come up NOS in the UK on ebay often, prices rages depending on interest. Also in the old forum there was a post with a link to a vendor who is remaking them. Though i believe there is some debate as to the amount of spikes on the crown.

i have two nos inserts still in the rootes package. they match the ones i buy from rick at sunbeam specialties. one thing to keep in mind is that rick's catalog does not list everything that he sells. if in doubt as to whether he has an item, call him.it might surprise you just what he does have.

Here is the one I have:

Some of the silver is coming off the beast and the crown. But from the replies below looks like a call/fax to SS may yield a new one.

Thanks for all the replies - to deal with the last first, Robert, would you like that badge to go to a good home? :) If so, please let me know and we can discuss it off list. Otherwise, I will

1 - check again with Peter Rudland, last time I did (a few years back ) they only had the all metal ones
2 - check with SS - 65Beam can you tell me how much the last ones cost you

Cheers, Vic

Actually, if I'm not mistaken (and could be) I seem to recall that at one point places like SS and CS had S3 plastic parts and they were selling them to SIV-V, Tiger guys who cut them down to restore their front badge. But, this was many many years ago.

i think you're right.i have been told that by a person in the business.that was before they started reproducing them.the new ones actually look as good if not better than the nos badges that i have that are still in original bags.of course the originals are over 30 years old.

OK, I now have my new badge insert from Rick, and very nice it is too. Now I just need to get the position right, the panel shop filled the holes during the respray. I can find the centreline easily enough - if someone can just tell me how far back from the leading edge of the bonnet the front edge of the badge should be.

Thanks again, Vic

I was just about to go out into the garage to measure mine when I remembered that I've got a DPO-fitted Series I/II bonnet on my III. So I can't guarantee my badge is in the right place!!

Russ,

Thanks anyway. BTW did Don Hall ever get in touch with the club up there? He's the bloke who I told you about a few months back, bought a red Series III out of a "barn"

Cheers, Vic
