SII-Crankshaft / Damper Key

The Key that lives on the nose of the Crankshaft....
I ordered a new one, that is 1-7/16" in overall length.
My old one is only 1-1/4" in length.

Shall I use my old one?
Or can I work with the new, longer one to mount the Crankshaft Timing Wheel & the Damper?

Or cut the new longer key down to the proper length. I would not re-use a crankshaft key that shows any distortion.
