Series I Alpine Body No and Colour Code

The Alpine Whites.
Moonstone White is tinged w/blue; Polar White tinged w/gray; Artic White is tinged with beige.
This color information was from my research over 25 years ago from original painted parts that Ian & I collected. So with that information, my old Glasurit auto paint store painstakingly match each Alpine/Tiger color and with that I sold paint chips so you guys could have a calibrated sample to have your paint store scan with their spectrometer and then the computer makes up a formula to mix as much paint as you want.

As in VIN #57 .. B9000057 LRX

not year 1957, I'm well aware of series Alpine production years.. and the Mark alpines are only 1953-55 ;)

I was positive you're aware of production time frames.

I just wasn't sure if it was a typo.

Mark this one up to misinterpretation of the same language.

Thanks for the clarification.

By the way, I have just the data plate from an early Series I. The numbers are:
B9003990 OD LRX 4001

Can be interpreted as a proof that early S1 carry the SAL instead of the colour Code on the VIN plate. Never noticed about this. Mine which was build in July 60 was and still is carrying the colourcode. Always interesting to learn new things...

Did they paint the cars with the plate on? I don't think so. Given how much that plate has been beat up, and that this isn't a Tiger that anyone is going to scream about the non-stock rivets, why don't you remove it to see the paint underneath? Or are those already not original rivets and you think it was removed for the prior paint?

I would think thought that in this car's history, it is pretty unlikely that it was stripped to bare metal before. So the original primer and paint should still be under the current paint.

Jay, I do not believe it (My Series I) has ever been stripped to bare metal. It has been oversprayed at some time in the past.

As I previously stated, I believe the rivets in the "Body Plate" and the small screws are original.

Even though the Body Numbers appear scratched and defaced, they are not. They are covered with excessive coats of paint/overspray. I will at some time in the future remove the excess paint.

Thanks,

So is there another Vin tag on the firewall somewhere? One of the previous owners of my series 2 decided to keep the vin tag from under the hood. I bought a replacement plate, but I’d like to know all the information that’s supposed to be there.

Depending on how late the SII is there should be a VIN stamped on the triangular ledge above the firewall below the scuttle. It's on the right side of the engine bay ( when sitting in the car... So passenger side in the USA)

I still have not been able to get the Moonstone 19 paint specs..... HELP!!!!

Moonstone 19 paint specs
Your best chance is Jan.

Found this, but think is small chance to give positive outcome.

Good luck,

Dan.. does the car have the original heater cover/bonnet latch tray.... Underside of that would have a nice original sample.

Moonstone is a blueish white.

I bought his Paint Chip (CD). Can't find a Paint Service than can get a good sample.

Most reputable Dealer around tried and I came up with a white that I paid $70 for a half-pint sample that did not work. It came out near pure white. Paid $100 from another that was no better.

If they can't get the color right, I would take it back and complain to them until they get it right.
This is probably the sign-of-the-times where the shops don't put in the time to get it right, or lack the skills or just don't care.
And the cost of refinishing products have gone through the roof.

Yes I have the original Latch Plate -Heater Core Cover. In the PIC's below you can see what I have to deal with.

The Heater Core Box had a lot of rust, but the box was "not" damaged other then lots of surface rust. None of the paint was available.

Holy.... I'm a bit shocked to see so much rust in there...what is the rest of the area under the scuttle going to be like? I don't think I've seen the underside get a such a large rust covering. Was the car repainted?

It is not unusual for the body tag number not to match (but within +1 to 20) the Vin number for Series II Alpines. I would guess that Series I's are the same.

There was an attempt by a former owner to spray the car years ago apparently. But mostly in the most visable areas.

Believe it are not the rest of my Series I does not have any major rust problems.

I am making a very small patch panels for the usual places that have rust appearing.

I was amazed that the doors, hood, and trunk lid was near perfect and without any rust. These pieces are the very best I have ever seen in a Alpine.
