Series 5 Alpine

I have an OD transmission with a broken main shaft. Can the main shaft be wielded?
Is the main shaft the same for all series, just gears different?

I have seen a broken S5 main shaft welded back together, if one can find the right shop to do it. The later OD tans have weak OD main shafts. So, DON'T DO BURN-OUTS sitting at a red light.
OD main shafts are different from early and late series. and then the early series have maybe 3 different main shaft designs.

If I recall correctly, the Alpine OD mainsheet is unique, and no other cars shared it. So the only option is to find another box.

The mainshaft in every gearbox is unique to that model of box.
The OD main shaft in a Sunbeam is that same as all other audux rootes OD cars

The overdrive unit is common to other cars, though the ratios vary.
The adaptor plates are a unique part to the rootes boxes.

You can make an overdrive main shaft for a rootes gearbox.
You get a LcDNM D-type overdrive main shaft froma Volvo or Triumph etc ...then you have to splice the part that goes into the overdrive unit onto a stock rootes shaft.. ensuring correct extension length of the adaptor plate
