SAOCA 25th Anniversary Invasion!

Alpine 1789

This has been hinted at before on the forum, but it is time to make this real and start the serious planning. 2026 will be the 25th anniversary of the Club's founding and the Board would like to mark the occasion with an old fashioned, national Invasion! We considered several locations but quickly settled on returning to Dayton, Ohio, the site of some of our most legendary past Invasions. We selected Dayton for a couple of reasons. To start with, it is probably as close as we can come to the location of the Club's founding and where many of our charter members and officers still live. It is also the location of a terrific British car show, held every year on the first Saturday in August. (August 1st in 2026.) And, its central location makes it an idea spot for many members to travel to. (Still far for some, myself included, but more doable than most places we could select.)

Plans and details still need to be ironed out, but we have already been in touch with the British Transportation Museum (https://www.britishtransportationmuseum.org/), home to multiple Rootes Group vehicles and Sunbeams and they are enthusiastic about playing a key role in our Invasion. And, those who were at the 2008 Dayton Invasion will remember our time at the US Air Force Museum (https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/). We are hoping to include that museum in our itinerary, as well. Add in the Dayton British Car Day (https://britishcardaydayton.com/) and we will have a very full weekend.

The Board is committed to making this a gathering for the ages. There is just one thing we will need: YOU! We don't need formal commitments yet, but do need to come up with an educated guess on a potential headcount. I will create a simple survey to try to gauge interest and keep the membership abreast of our plans as they develop and crystallize. In addition to responding to my survey, please feel free to weigh in with your thoughts here.

I hope to see many (most?) of you this August!

p.s. This event does not impact the annual Columbia, SC gathering in the spring. 2026 will be an embarrassment of riches of Sunbeam enthusiasts!

WOW, I can't believe it's been 25 years. I think my member number is 49.

We are planning on attending what has to happen to get registered? Have Hotel reservations set and may be bringing some parts.

Glad you brought this up today!
This is the last day to get your hotel room at the special rate. Everyone who has registered at the hotel as of today gets FREE registration for the Invasion. Info for the registration for all others after this date will be on this forum soon.
Here is all the info for the hotel and the car show registration.
The Board has negotiated a terrific rate of just $134/night - including breakfast for two! – at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dayton Fairborn. Our rate is good from July 28th, 2026 through August 5th for those who want to extend on either end, and we will hold an event dinner banquet there on Saturday night after the car show. The hotel hosts multiple car clubs throughout the year and is very experienced at taking care of groups like ours. We will have a dedicated parking area, ample room for trailers and a large parts room/hospitality area that will be open for the duration of the event. We have a room block for 20 rooms (10 with two queen beds and 10 with kings) on Thursday the 30th, and 40 rooms (20 and 20) for the 31st and 1st. You can book your room at:

The Dayton British Car Day (https://britishcardaydayton.com) will be held this year on Saturday, August 1st
And bring parts to sell too-we have a big parts room to fill up!

I was having a wonderful evening at our closing banquet. Then I get a message during dinner that my son, Josh and his family,l who live in my house, needed to evacuate because of a wildfire threatening homes on our prairie. Josh wanted to know what important items I would want them to get for me. Literally the shock of such news left me without cognitive ability to respond.. I asked Jim, Ken and others at our banquet table what would they take. Their responses meant so much to me. And Ken’s offer to let me leave my truck and trailer filled with two sunbeams at his place. Followed by “I can get you to the airport.”
Our Sunbeam community is the best!!!

My son Josh joined others with one of his wildfire fighting water tender trucks . That and local firefighters reversed the evacuation order saved many prairie homes. However our Spokane community has been devastated by other fires that started in other parts of the county. Two families from those areas are now using my home for their refuge.
All of that personal news being stated I need to share my thoughts of our SAOCA Invasion.
Starting with spending a day with Jan Servaites at his shop to the wet car show. The many parking lot and inside conversation elevated my happiness quotient to an all time high. I have significant appreciation for all that made this happen.
Cheers

Wow, Jerry, I’m so glad your son and family, and your home, was saved, but sad to hear so many were devastated by the fire. It’s wonderful of you to open your home to those who were affected.

Jerry: I am so happy to hear that your home has been spared. As much as I feel for all of those who have not been so lucky, I am glad to know you are not one of them. I hope the good news from home continues and that you are able to finish your trip more or less as planned. Thanks for being there and for bringing two such special cars with you.

p.s. Now would be a good time to call Hagerty.

Thanks for the well wishes gents.

Things have settled down for my family. I’ll fly home tomorrow knowing a good friend lost their home. I’ll be helping out where I can.
Cheers
Jerry

Jerry, I hope you & yours make it through these fires. So sorry to hear all of this.
And thanks for spending time together and too bad Saturday's car show was rained out. Your Lemans is looking great! I love the history of it and as well as Paul's Tiger. Thanks for bring both cars.
Have a good time at the United
