It has always surprised me that in Australia with a very strong Rootes Group presence that we have had over the years really no strong racing Rootes .You look at old racing photos of England , America , you will see Rapiers ,Alpines , Imps at the front of their class , but not here .I follow a page old racing photo,s , in a year not a Rootes car on show . Just been looking at a major Historic race at Winton again a no show of Rootes . In my memory I can think of only 1 guy in Victoria who raced Hillmans in the 60,s and then a front running Alpine in latter years, Terry Sully ,but no one else. Strange but True I should add there is a guy racing a very well prepared Hillman Hunter at this time in the major races

Thomo.. there was a SV alpine from S.A running in group S at Winton. Looked to be quite a road prep car rather than an out and out racer.... But first time I've seen one racing in a while.

There are ex- Morse and buttler alpines running around in Qld and SA ... But.. think in regularity.

In 60s in Australia don dunoon ran the Elfin alpine and then created the vogue sports to run in touring cars.. Bathurst sandown etc and did ok.. a few imps too..
But rootes Australia was rather lax on the completion entering front....and without much factory tunning support.. why would private entrants bother doing the development for a niche

UK was too really . Though there was a decent amount of rally alpines rather than track..... The states were the mainstay of circuit competition alpines..

Oh.. and before you ask... Yes...I'm trying to get your ex-SI into a stae it can run.. but the state it arrived when I got it ( not after your ownership) was a total cluster... So it is a complete new motor build.. but the disruption after 2020 has really thrown timelines out....

I am curious, were the early Corvettes sold down under LHD?
No, we didn't have LHD cars registerable till the late 90s and they had to be 25 years old and carry warning signs.
Now we don't need the signs.
However MANY 60-80s USA muscle cars have flowed down under since the late 90s
