Robbins tops/ hoods OPINIONS?

Anyone have a suggestion for a top that might be superior to the Robbins products?

Is there a difference in fit between the canvas and vinyl versions in quality, fit, appearance?

What about wear? Does the canvas last as long, or longer than, the vinyl (and justify roughly twice the cost?)

Does anyone in the Boston area have a suggestion for an excellent installer?

Is it possible to do a top flight installation oneself, never having done this kind of job?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Hi David,

In my experience, I highly recommend the canvas top. I have had two, and they last much longer and look much better than the vinyl ones. That is the reason they cost so much.

I would recommend being very careful when you fold the top, because the top frame arms will actually pinch the material and casue a hole in it. Try to keep the material away from the pinch point as much as you can. My turbo Alpine had a canvas top that lasted the twenty years I owned it, and it still looked good when I soldit.

On sunbeam alpine of any series few seem to get them tight around the rear 3/4 without wrinkles. I believe it's easier to get a better fit with canvas, and yes they do look great compared to vinyl By not correct. Also iirc Robbins will only sell canvas ones through a certified installer for warranty reasons

We have a canvas top that's made from the same material as BMW,MERC
etc. we got it from a company in New Hampshire, the top is made by a company in Long Beach California, having said all that, the top seems to be
not quite correct around the windows I talked to the guy who did my interior
and his take on it is, the patterns are so old that every time they make a top
their a little different, it looks good though!
Try Miami Rubber in Ohio, American Auto in Long Beach, Convertible top
Guys in the east look on the net you'll find lots of sources you can buy a
canvas top from many places other than Robbins.
