Quaife Limited Slip Differential

It is not.

The one quaife makes is for the STL (sunbeam talbot lotus), which uses a Vauxhall or ZF differential.

Totally different beast.

Rootes did offer a LSD for race alpines, the kit was created by Doane Spencer.

The kit utilized a modified Dana 23/25 Powr-lok carrier, special axles and a modified case.

I am in the process of creating my own repro as I have a NOS dana 23 high ratio powr-lok carrier.
This is not for the meak, the spline count is totally different (10 vs 17 or 25), and requires some rather precise machining.

Ex racecars sometimes have a worn out LSD in them if you can get the owner to part with it.

A popular modification for land rovers is to replace the 3rd member with toyota 3rds. Custom shaft and a redrilled pattern are required.

Has anyone investigated the possibilites of a more popular 3rd member fitting the stock alpine housing? Japanese sports cars would prob be a good start, receive and duplicate.

Yes, I have.

You have to consider though that along with finding a third member that is close, then you have the axle interface to consider.

I looked into a gen 1 mazda RX7 setup.

It looks pretty close and they had an optional clutch type LSD.

The trouble is that literally NO ONE re-splines axles for the mazda.

It seems far more attractive going with an 8 inch ford or getting a dana 44 from a narrow track jeep.

Not sure if you guys remember but Mike Broome in the Uk had a few LSD's made for the alpines when he was racing his a few years back. he advertised them on the board.

If you dig through the archive im sure he listed the MFG.

Secondly, i know people have adapted ford escort LSD setups.. but think it was a lot of work.

I'm pretty sure Moser does. http://the-mite.com/mite22.htm

Do you know if the axle centerline to 3rd member mounting surface distances were the same?

No, the oddball metric sized splines were a deal breaker.

It would be far easier to take the whole axle from the RX7 than to graft the chunk to the alpine.

Plus you wouldnt have the well known weak link of the two piece rootes axles.
