Pierce Manifold Weber 32/36 Vacuum Question

Does it matter which port I hook up the brake servo to?

I read that i probably should have put the brake servo hose on the plenum instead of the port near the #1 runner AFTER putting in aluminum fittings with permatex high temp thread sealant.

Duh.

How much of a pain is it to remove them after a few heat cycles and are there any known issues with running the servo on the #1 runner? I intend to swap out brake masters and delete the servo soon. Driving in the meantime.

Thoughts?

OK, Scotty,

I'm sort of surprised no one has ventured an answer to your question, yet. Then again, not really.

1 > Did it affect the booster servo operation with the vacuum hose connected on #1 intake runner on the O/E Solex manifold?

2 > Your stated intention is that the servo, new manifold, and carburetor are all just temporary until better stuff is installed. Does it really matter if all is operational????????????

3 > Hope your road draft cover and no PCV helps with your engine tune - many adhere to that philosophy.

Keep 'em on the road,

I have the Booster vacuum on #1 runner and PVC vacuum on the plenum, Engine runs fine.

Intentions and realities are two vastly different things, especially when the car is your driver lol.

There are things I intend yo do but its a matter of time abd knowing whst I do will work out the box with the minnimum.amount of setbacks if possible. Why I ask as many dumb questions. That and there's always something I don't know about or to do.

My concern with the #1 runner was because I was reading past posts from various sites that there was an issue with the car stalling and other factors if you hook up to it.

I have been driving on the Pierce Manifold with all brand new everything for the last few days. Outside of a tuning issue I originally blamed the #1 runner for, I found it had to step down one idle jet size, from the 60 Pierce had installed in the Weber to a 55. MAJOR difference between it and the Solex.

I decided to make changes to see how it felt driving it under different Carbs before totally settling on one and living with it. I drive mine everyday ahd want options in case I need to swap out for whatever reason. I'm slowly learning the lesson about stocking ready-to-go parts.

Your #3 I am on the fence about because I believe in the benefit they offer but I'm finding the car tends to run better without them and more frequent oil changes are on the calendar just in case. Just hoping I made the right decision.

Thank you for your post!

@BEpine - Thank you!

So, you weren't able to find a replacement for the cracked cover on your servo?

The servo, if functioning properly, should only bleed the volume of air in the front or rear vacuum chamber as the brakes are applied or released.

If you have a continuous leak, then that could certainly affect #1 and overall running. In that case, connecting the servo to the plenum location would cause the air leak to be shared by all cylinders.

Might help, but the air leak is still bad for tuning.

Think of this link being Your air leak talking to you. LOL

LOL. Your song choices for situations are legendary. Love it!

And yes, I did replace it! Turned out to be pretty straightforward, just had to take my time.

I put a Snorkel on the Weber with a sealed airbox and hose to the outside of the car and what a difference! I've done enough set up work with the Weber that I can do the other half of that sentence and forget it lol.

Any chance you can post a photo of the intake tubing to the snorkel?

Scotty,

LOL

Thanks, but it's much more simple than that - no real skill involved.

I had recently YT binged some Blondie videos and had an "earworm" running around.

What's the best thing to do to an earworm? ............... SHARE IT!

I'm not sure if you had been exposed to Blondie's music growing up, but this was too good an opportunity.

On the other hand, Deborah Harry is a very talented performer and is listed as cowriter on some of the group's songs.

If you weren't familiar with the group growing up, I'll think you probably did see this video back in the day.

It was Season 5, episode 9, filmed 8-4-1980 on the "Muppet Show."

Have a good day,
