Oil Cooler repair

Since I already had my radiator out to do a water pump repair, I decided to take care of a bothersome oil cooler leak. One less leak ya know?
Anyway, earlier I had wrenched it Realllly Tight, and to loosen it, it was Realllly Tight. To the tune of a Rubber Mallet Assist. That may have been a mistake, or maybe that's where the leak was coming from. Now that's a machined steel end, so I have no way of sweating this together. I'm thinking maybe a Radiator Shop?oil cooler 1.jpg

Jim, I believe a good radiator shop could repair your cooler.

Just an added note.... Make sure you use two wrenches when tightening or loosening the connections. Your possible mistake was to utilize only one wrench which put too much stress on the cooler. Or perhaps you were like I did once, took my mind off "holding the cooler fitting" because the hose nut was as you said, reallly tight and I put more pressure on the other wrench than I should have.

Thanks Dan, Yeah, I'm a DumAss. I know better than to force 52 year old car parts. Shake my head in shame.
so, yeah I'll take it up to Camarillo tomorrow to Jacks Radiator and see what he can do. He fixed my radiator, and my heater core.

Yes, I had one fixed at a radiator shop. The fins/loops are also soldered on. Make sure they understand that and take precautions so the end section doesn't come loose - unlike the guy who fixed mine.

Yes, was a successful day. My regular radiator guy never showed up, so went to another shop and the guy says $48.00. I had $41 in cash, and he said cash. OK, find my bank etc. etc. came back and it wasn't done had a lot of problems getting it to silver solder. Anyway all done, happy, decent price, installed, and yes, the water pump and alternator and oil cooler all appear to be working as they should and tomorrow after an oil change and a coolant change we're going driving………………………………...Do I hear Road Trip?
No, not tomorrow. but definitely to the grocery store. The real long way around that is.
