Mystery gauge- Oil Temp

Hi Folks- Got a mystery gauge on the SV Alpine. A Smith's oil temperature gauge. It's mechanical, the sensor is screwed into a bung in the oil pan. Nice job, no leaks. The gauge reads in Fahrenheit, 80-120-140-160-180-200-210-220-230. Full face sweep with a white pointer. Is this anything of consequence or a random zoomie part? I'd like to remove it and get my dash back into original order, but of course I don't have a fitting on hand to seal the oil pan. Since replacing the voltage stabilizer, I have a working temperature gauge and the oil temp gauge is extraneous and a bit boy racer to me. Keep it and find a plug or just lop it off and move on? Thanks.

I'll see if I can't get my camera out for that. I own a cell phone but am not real good with it. It's why I prefer to work on old cars- the only software in the whole car is the seats!

The later fastback Sunbeam Rapier H120 came stock with an oil temp gauge. There was a bung in the rear of the oil cooler plate and it used the same water temp sender unit.

Hope this works. It's a mechanical gauge. I want to remove it and get the fuel gauge in the right place. Dash looks like Fido's hiney right now. More important to get everything working properly then I'll worry about pretty.

So- any ideas whether to keep this gauge or not? Really don't want to have to pull the oil pan to block off the bung for the sensor bulb but if it's a significant gauge.........
Thanks-

It's nice to have and in my humble opinion it is better than the stock water temperature gauge. You could always keep it and put it behind the dash to avoid pulling off the oil pan.
