Hey all... putting the final items together for an early 65 Tiger purchase.
...
I said I wouldn't do another project, but this is too good to pass up on.
...
See tag and any info is appreciated. Color appears to be light blue.
...
Thanks for your support as the process begins.

Very early mki tiger.. just after the black dash cars...car was originally red. Appears to now be Mediterranean blue.

You might want to look at joining one of the Tiger clubs

You might want to see if there is somewhere on the car that is red. Somewhere that may not have got painted, in around where the soft top stores. Not original rivets on the the VIN tag. Does it have a black dash and no trim rolls on the doors? If it's TAC'd you' re good to go, if not see if you can find a knowledgeable Tiger guy to check it out before you buy it. The rear end #s should be H64/498

Thanks... Your comment about the rivets is correct and has given me some pause.

I think this might a clever Alger. Will know more tomorrow and post. Damn.

Do your due diligence. But I don't see any red flags in the pictures presented.
Doors, hood and trunk are round cornered. Yes?
It has the original 60's ignition ballast resistor. Not an item a casual Alger creator is going to use. Certainly not an ALGER in its present state of high Patina.

Thanks for feedback....

We are planning to drive about 130 miles this Saturday for the full enchilada look.
The current owner inherited a 100% restored car to the right in Blue... and this car he was working on.
There is no more information except the title appears correct.

We will get under the car for sure and make a thorough examination with pictures.

Downsides...
Vin tag indicates a Red Car... but the car began life positively as Blue. Way up in trunk you can see the original color
Vin tag is indicating low production number 446, but has incorrect rivets.
Car has square corner RED doors with Tiger Trim, but no holes for remaining trim or badges on rest of car.
Hood has rounded corners.
Trunk looks odd with the battery, and has no tray. Puck on floor may have been added
Not sure about rear seating area where top is hidden.
Tunnel looks correct, but until we get in front of it can't say for sure.

Upsides...
260-V8 Tiger Motor (runs) with original air cleaner etc.
Saginaw 4 speed (Clutch frozen to flywheel)
Posi Rear end - Not sure of ratio yet.
Did these come with a Panhard bar on the early cars?
Virtually no rust except in driver floor boards
Almost all missing parts including new seats, and carpet is included
Good bumpers and nerfs
Plastic Dash and instruments. Were early runs plastic for the dash?

If it's a Tiger, we're towing it home... and it will get the full treatment back to Red etc.

If it's an FrankenTiger... we'll leave it there most likely.

Regards

Still trying to donate/sponsor, but I need to use a VISA card. PM a way we can get this done.

One is sure from the very beginning: The car is not wearing the correct VIN tag!

1. An early B947 Tiger would have round corners on the hood, doors and the trunk lid. 2. A car with that VIN would also have 3 metal covers atop the lowered soft top, not the upholstered padded coverings. 3. This car has a metal vertical panel in the jumpseat area with a pleated card which no B947 ever had since that panel began with Series V production. Overall, I don't see things I should and see things I shouldn't.

What is his price? Could still be a good buy, even if ......

Well in the trunk photos you can see where the Alpine spare tire mount was poorly removed and the holes where the Alpine jack assembly tool clips were mounted above the Alpine vertical spare tire. Lots of things to look over closely!

Ok, have him shoot the pictures of the battery box or more correctly lack thereof. Doubtful that the car was rear clipped but seen 2 MK2's that were.
I do prefer innocent until proven guilty .

The body and vin are definitely non correlating. And as Eric pints out the obvious removal of the Alpine spare mount is a massive flag.

@ Alpine64, 65 Sunbeam... Yep I noticed that spare tire mount hacking and battery case issue also.
@ Volvoguy... Definite red flags.
@ Warren.... I'll ask him again about that. He has tremendous health issues and his wife has dementia so each request is burdened

Also noticed... aside from the Tiger Trim on the red door... there are NO OTHER mounting holes for the stainless trim pieces on either side.
On the price... it's really good... but i still want to build a real Tiger bottom to top.
There is no real significant value in an Alger no matter how good it's done IMO

To me it looks like a Trans Alpine self Identifying as a Tiger

@DesertRat
At best this is a mkia Tiger with the wrong VIN and JAL off a very early '64 MKI.

But as for it being a MKIA .... There seems to be a lot of red flags indicating a Series V Alpine body...

I think you nailed it Michael.

My very "Norman" Alp/Tiger buddy with three Tigers, and a bunch of Singer/Hilman/Alpines agrees.

We're probably going to pass at this point in time. I don't think the seller actually knows all of this.

Thanks

Putting a @ before the responding name only works on Bring a Trailer :)
Too much schmutz to see a generator indentation as well. Two or three more pictures will tell more than a 1000 words. Give us a town and we can suggest a homie to kick her tires . Or PM me and I'll tell you a couple more build notes that have already been slathered on the WWW.... But I refuse to do that.

Hey Warren... LOL... I will give you that info... if my Tiger buddy doesn't buy it... just for the fun of it.

Lots of there I fixed it going on the transmission tunnel...
Although seen car hacked apart because the D.P.O. wanted to remove the transmission or do a clutch with the engine in the car...

I'm completely not interested in a car like that unless it was free... But there's no such thing as a free car :)

Honestly... I might not want it free. My fun is in restoring vintage cars that are not jumbled up.
...
I got a 'free' car and it cost me almost $11k to finish without labor. Four year resto.

Got lucky ...as a guy who has a nice collection... saw the car... and made solid offer (profit!) and off it went.

I got this in a package deal from an estate sale, along with a trailer load of Sunbeam parts, both Alpine and Tiger stuff. I knew the prior owner and was aware he had made a Tiger from 3 different wrecked ones. It was not represented to me as a Tiger and is registered as a Rootes Sunbeam. I make no claim that it is a real Tiger and I do have a real 1966 Tiger. I have enough parts to complete this car with a lot left over. It is for sale for a reasonable offer, along with a lot of Sunbeam parts. It could be a nice little hot rod project or a race car to play with but not ever a real Tiger.
