I am attaching 2 pictures of the left hand side bottom and top linkage bushes. I have already purchased new ones but are the old ones

1. Buggerd replace now
2. Buggerd can wait till winter

Although The Green Bean is not my daily driver, I do drive it when I can and I want to go to a car show 350 kms away in 2 weeks. I also know that these bushes have been on the car for almost 60 years so I do not think they will just break on my way to Kamloops ..... :)

There were issues with replacement part

dimensions in the past.

Check the OD of the bushings to the A-arm mount IDs.

For the S4-5 Upper A-arm bushings OD, around 1.156"+

For the S4-5 Lower A-arms bushings OD, around 1.281"+

I think Michael's question is if he can leave those bushings in place for now and not have concerns with driving a couple of hundred miles in the near future.
 
No reason for panic. That is how the the outer rubber looks on most of them however the inner bush rubber will still work properly. Replacement by winter would be more than fine...
 
Just for the record, I didn't suggest

If or When to change the bushings.

BUT I have seen a Lot of issues with

bushings in the past.

Counting on correct parts and finding

them NOT, really screws up the project...

When you get to it.


BTW, I have replaced a LOT of A-arm bushings,

Only one set Really Needed to be changed.

They usually look worse than they are.


Disclaimer, That was back in the '90s

and Now all those original bushings are that

much Older... YMMV.

I wouldn't sweat it too much by the look of the outer rubber Michael .. if it's not clunking, veering, darting going over minor road conditions, turns without that steering irregularity ... your probably good for your road trip. Remember when ya' do the job replace the steering cross-link bushings as well t.R. ends etc. ... I like the urethane ones but some don't ... more feel and responsive in my opinion ...and makes a Huge difference in the driving either way ya' go ..Rubber/Urethane. ....

The bushings look centered on the arms and probably will last many more years. If you see the inner bushing leaning to one side or able to shake the arm, then it's time to replace them.

Thanks David, there is no noise from them at all, I just replaced the sway bar bushes and now I can go rouind a corner properly, what a difference that has made .... I will ignore them for now ...
