In the late 70,s a work mate took me to see a Series 3 dark green Rapier that the owner had imported to Australia from England , that he said had been owned by Jack . It had mini lite wheels . a mechanical tack on the steering column , full harness belts , twin Webers , and he said a full alloy motor .Strange story but if you consider the contacts Jack had it may have been . I tried to trace the car a few years later , but the story was it had been stolen , driven to Perth , and being pretty messed up , insurance paid up and the car disappeared

Thomo, one of the parts guys at east coast auto in Melbourne in the early 2000s said he worked for rootes back in the 60s.
He told me about a rapier that had an alloy block... To be honest I never took it seriously as you can't really use the castings for a iron block for an alloy casting as the tolerance and expansion for the alloy block when it's being run are different.... Think about the issues Aston Martin had when they tried their inital alloy blocks off their iron castings.... Failed engines everywhere....until they made new molds with the appropriate tolerance

So when are you coming home to get the Alpine on the track
It's still on the list.... Still haven't got the replacement engine together... Have some of the main parts ....but there is a bunch of work for a new head and block..
Just need more time and money.... Sadly both being absorbed by far less interesting and worthwhile things ..
