"Guesstamate"of survivors

FWIW, my understanding is that the TAC inspectors will never say "this car did not start its life as a Tiger", only that they are unable to make a determination. The choices are "left the factory as a Tiger" or "not sure".
Iirc it's described as not having enough evidence of the Jensen manufacture to pass the criteria for TAC....
Not saying it's a rebody . Not saying it's a tiger...just saying we can't see enough evidence to satisfy our criteria that this came down the Jensen line ..

The ironic thing to me is that there are definitely knowledgeable people out there that could make a fake that is far superior to what Jensen turned out. Unfortunately it is all about the $$$.

I think your comment is slightly misguided... It's not irony....
It's been discussed many times the poor quality of the welding Jensen did cutting and adding the parts .. the compromise on the various parts of the design .. but that's what makes it a Tiger.

You can build an Alpine with a V8 that is much better crafted and engineered... A few have , but that's what they are.... They are not an original Tiger... Not a fake Tiger.. just a well engineered Alpine V8.....
A fake Tiger is exactly that... Someone passing off their conversion as a factory car for economic reasons

There was once a published list of the minute differences. It was "banned" because people thought that shops would use it as a checklist to make fake Tigers. I actually have a copy. But have sworn to never share it! I agree with every word that Michael has added here (but that's not saying much).

If you want to know, sign up to be a TAC inspector. They periodically offer a class to teach inspectors.

There was also a side by side underneath shot showing the differences.

We tried to get the Colorado Team the "new" guys to fly into Vegas do 3 cars within 5 miles of each other and they declined. 500 bucks for each car was to be paid pickup and return to the airport. If it's not at a United or club event fat chance. If you are in an area already populated with them don't bother Patrick or Tom H. The STOA roster used to * them but not anymore. There was also a listing of them on the WWW which helped me....I think get a car.

The few Algers I've seen are easy to spot. When you need something to read and you're bored, go to the UK Sunbeam tiger club page. Look over the reshelling thread....
