Gas cap - vented Series 2

I experience vapor locked while at slow speed and hot weather. I have an original tank that I did POR-15 on years ago. I have an original cap. I’m going to drive in a parade this weekend and figure I could loosen the cap for air flow or buy a new cap but nothing seems to be available for the two internal pegs that the cap attaches to in the filler. Anyone else have a thought for a parade?

I'm not familiar with the series 2 gas caps. The later series caps have a pin hole in the center to allow air to move in both directions, equalizing out pressure differences. Those tiny holes can get clogged and create a vacuum in the fuel system. How do series 2 caps normally support the pressure changes?

There are 2 types of cap for the SI/II a domed cap and a 3 ear cap that looks like the wire wheels spinner.

The series 3 one has a pin hole in the center...the early cars dont seem to have thag on the dome caps but often ive sewn a pin on the 3 ear... maybe the early ones rely on a not air tight fit to vent...

Here is a picture of mine. I figured out how I could attach it using one of the posts and probably have some venting. Normally my vapor locking only happens in parade conditions (hot and low idle). I've been lucky enough that when it died during the last 2 parades people are happy to push me off to the side.

Can you just remove the rubber seal for the parade and not fill the tank all the way up?

Seems to have the vents. They are the holes in the inner cap in thw recess that sits offset from the chromed outwr skin and vents via the back of the 3 ears

Good point on the rubber seal. I removed it, but now the cap doesn’t stay secured. I’ll grab something to wedge under the cap like a piece of plastic or rubber so it will tighten on those posts. I seem to recall that neither Rick or Curt supply the gasket that goes under the cap on the early cars.

I used a seal of a 1980s chevy gas cap from any auto parts store.

I have the domed one on my Series II.
Does anyone sell the 3-Ear Cap?

There was a Triumph motorcycle domed cap that would work 3 earned Unobtainable just like one from a one year Ranchero with SS trim and the holy Grail if you have an AMC Gremlin :)
I found be a one year only Toyota Corolla cap and looked for years then saw a local at a car show and said here buy me a drink some day....

Im totally lost on what your saying...
The triumph motorcycle gas cap was the same as used on the same as the series 3 cap.. which was round with a square edge and ribbed side finish..

And this is why I built one for my car, I built it to match the wheel center caps I built.
