Fun Pertronix Story - Sarcasm Included Free of Charge!

For a long time I have been searching for issues with my Weber 32/36, Vacuum Leaks, popping from the Carb and other worrying nonsense with the end results being not much more than a wild goose chase where I ended up learning a lot and solving nothing.

Before this post, the only thing I discovered was where my vacuum leak was really coming from, the top gasket of a gasket-phenolic spacer - gasket. For some reason the Weber I have needs a gasket that is just a hair larger than the base and that actually solved the problem. I went insofar as using Gasgacinch on it and even that didn't help; the bottom gasket and spacer was solid and the top gasket you can just lift off with no effort at all.

I decided to upgrade my ignition with Pertronix Flamethrower spark plug wires and distributor and rotor to complement my Flamethrower 3ohms and Ignitor, and that's where I noticed, when twisting the cam after taking the rotor off the top, that the magnet ring moves. It isn't firm on the cam and has a good half inch movement in either direction.

I ordered a new one from Pertronix and the new one fits tight.

So if you're having all sorts of goofy unexplained issues and you're running a Pertronix Ignitor or anything that uses the Magnet Rings, maybe take a moment and make sure its snug. I figure over time the plastic inside the distributor cap environment might degrade and start turning or causing issues.

Just posting this in the hopes that it helps someone. Happy motoring!
