freeze plugs and engine paint

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from searching it looks like a semigloss black is the correct color for a series V 1725 oil pan and block while everthing else is natural cast or polished.

Now were the blocks painted before or after the freeze plugs were installed?

Robert,

the later SV cars used the chysler blue on the blocks and pans.. what # is your SV. If its early then yes.. black is correct. As for the alloy parts, they were all as cast, none were polished from the factory.

Its not semi-gloss like American cars from the '60s. The Sunbeams were gloss black. All the sheetmetal parts, including engine blocks are all gloss black (including freeze plugs)

I would NOT use a lacquer or the new urethane paints, especially the urethane paints on bare metal (very bad combination, because it wants to cross-link, or bond, to a previously appied layer of paint) I use acrylic enamel, gloss black.
The heat (what, 170 degrees?) is not an issue on the oil pan or block. Far from it.
