Found in oil pan?

Perhaps it's just a harbinger of spring? ;)

OK, so actually it looks a lot like part #62, your timing chain oil feed valve spring. You might find a ball bearing in there as well... at least I *hope* you do. :oops:

Thanks. That’s gotta be it. Interesting that 60, 64, and 65 were intact but the spring was in the pan and the ball bearing is nowhere to be found. How did that spring escape? Sloppy engine builder? Must have been. Thanks again.
 
The fuel pump does have a spring like that. It's also possible that if it came loose it could end up in the oil pan. I have a box of disassembled fuel pumps - I'll take a look to see if it matches up.

That's my guess too. If your fuel pump has the pumping lever on the bottom check if it feels normal or flopping.
I wouldn't think the car would run with the fuel pump missing. Possibly a PO problem.

Almost definitely an AC mechanical fuel pump lever spring. Good thing is it falls right down into the oil sump without creating any damage…
