To all members,

I gotta think of a catchy name for this.

Thanks to all members sending and posting comments about the 2016 calendar. Tom did a great job putting it together and is still helping the new Board. I wish there were awards for outgoing Board members for their service 'cause he sure deserves one. Thanks to all the contributing members for being part of the 2016 calendar.

Every year people complement the calendar, but towards the end of the year, we are always asking at the last minute for contributions to it. Our new VP Pete and our new Membership Chair Greg will be asking again in a few months. Please, use your cellulars, pack a camera. Shoot. Send them in when they ask. Its a kick to have your car included. Not only that, when people outside our club see it, it represents SAOCA.

We had a second Board meeting today. You'll be pleased to know all members of the Board were there and also Mr. Bill Blue, who will be overseeing the Invasions to come. Although not a voting member, Bill is willing to contribute to the Club. We appreciate his input.

Greg and I will be meeting this week to put together what we hope will simplify the dues and member premiums. We will be posting the results soon. Remember, your Board serves as volunteers. We hope to serve the membership well, but we still need time for family, work, and most of all our cars. (Myself, I'm just looking forward to having my 2 Alpines, parts, and tools in the same Zip Code. Heck, I'd settle for the same time zone.)

I've gotten feedback that the annual poster isn't very popular. The poster is expensive to mail, with the postage and the tube. I'd like a little more input from all of you, pro and con. If that's the case, we should consider replacing it with something prefered. We're open to replacements. Your Board is dedicated to adding value to the membership.

In a few months we hope to have the Regalia up and running. I'll be getting artwork of our emblem soon. This is a personal gripe of mine and am determined to have this up and running by Summer. The issue in the past has been guessing what the members want, spending Club funds inventorying it and risking those funds against the possibility of dead inventory. The alternative is giving our emblem to an outfit that can make 1 or 100 of whatever a member orders. Problem is unless they get a bunch of orders in a month, the Club sees no income from it. I'd be happy for a small income to the Club in exchange for members having the oportunity to fly our colors.

Stand by for interesting membership statistics. A few weeks ago I posted a request to the previous Regional Presidents asking if they wished to continue. Got one reply which was a polite decline. Greg sent me some numbers and I got out a map and put the number of members in each state. Figured it might help me sort out new Regions. Enough with the misconception that SAOCA is an east coast centric club. Out of 319 "active" members, 64 are in the Golden State. 186/319 are west of the Mississippi. 116 are from the Rockies to the Pacific. 88 on the Pacific Coast alone. In my humble opinion, there just ain't no excuse why we don't have some activities way out West folks. If there's interest, we can post the individual state numbers.

Did you know we have no members in Maine, Rhode Island, North Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska or Hawaii?

So there we go. Standing by for your input and replies.

Keep in mind that the numbers are based on historical sponsors, not sponsors who've donated recently. Sponsors currently up to date on dues number in the neighborhood of 75. The fact is that many of our sponsors donated once 8 years ago and haven't been seen since (and truth be told, may or may not even own a Sunbeam at this point).

As an experiment, and to make a point, I just took a look at the last group in Nick's list, the states with only one sponsor each. Only one of those sponsors has donated in the last five years, and he recently canceled his annual donation.

Also, it should be noted that there are just shy of 20 historical sponsors for whom the membership roster doesn't show any location information (or address to mail membership packets to). For some reason, that includes you, Fordtootsie (though I see you were somehow sent a calendar in January), so add one more to the Colorado part of the list.

All that said, my numbers should be taken with a grain of Morton's. I simply don't know Excel well enough to analyze the data by any means other than by hand. I'd love to set up a pivot table, but my knowledge ends at the existence of pivot tables.

But just as an educated guess, the percentage of members state-to-state should continue to hold true, meaning Nick's new regional breakdown should still work. Just don't expect to get 40 owners at at BBQ in the northeast region. More than a few in that particular region haven't donated in upwards of 10 years.

Maybe it's me...but I think the present method of posting pictures ( the only way I've been able to do it is with photobucket, and I don't like it.) I know I'm suppose to use an imp (??) . It would be so nice to copy and paste or drag a photo.

I agree. You guys are on the right track and I'm liking your thoughts. Keep it up.

Region 9 S. CA, S.NV=33

Maryland and Delaware are missing. You could add them to region 1 (creating a northeast + mid-atlantic region), or have two regions - a northeast region (NY, CT, VT, NH, RI, ME) and a mid-atlantic region (PA, NJ, DE, MD). Either approach seems fine.

Sorry. Didn't mean to exclude. What we were thinking was to minimize travel distance for members. Like I said, not written in stone. You guys can work together. Example: When I was in Arizona there was a lot of back and forth between us and Southern California. Members could elect to combine SoCal/SoNevada to Az/NM/UT. It's not up to the Board. If you all want the "center of the region" to be the Grand Canyon, that's for you to determine. Develop your region and tell us. Kelly holds an annual gathering at his garagmahal. Jim Dimond hosted one at his house in Phoenix when V6 Jose was in SoCal. We even had a member from Calgary.

Before I moved to Portland I was working on a Rolling Invasion to be called the "Sunbeams, Sahuaros and Spooks Tour". A haunted hotel in Prescott was very interested in having us.

We know each other's forum names and seen pictures of our cars. Why not swap keys for an afternoon? (Can you keep a secret? I've only driven a 4 cylinder car twice) (Never driven a Tiger). (Cause for Impeachment?)

Hello Nick, etal
This is the first I've seen this thread which is a little odd as I check "New Posts" every couple days at least, looking to absorb as much intel about Sunbeams as I can with my pea brain.

Interesting data re: state by state membership numbers.

Are there any guess-ti-mations as to how many I - V Alpines are still on the road? I've learned a few individuals are hording multiples in their garages so that lowers the total number of available "sponsors" for SAOCA, plus Max killed off a few Alpines in the G-S series. I just added up the build numbers and 69,251 were built according to the Sunbeam Specialties catalog.

Any ideas how many of those were sent to the US?

If I wanted to reach out to only N. Cal members, is there any way to do that via this system?

Thanks
John

Like the charter shirts. Now all we need to do is determine the cutoff point. We have an ambitious workload now. I'd hold that off awhile.

We need to update the registry and we could mine that data.

........unless there are volunteers....

The cutoff point was greater than 100. I am not included in the original roster member as I am member 113, but I do have a Charter Member shirt. Can't find my membership card, but I am positive about the number.
