Final Toast

This weekend Dick Cole, Robert Hite, Edward Saylor and David Thatcher will break open the 1896 Hennessy Very Special cognac for the final toast of the Doolittle Raiders at the Air Force National Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. These four survivors of a group of very brave aviator heroes have decided there are too few of them for public reunions to occur. Salut.

Actually, Lt Col Hite won't be attending the final toast this weekend. However, his family arranged a toast for him in in his home in Nashville.
On a personal note, there are nominations in both the House and Senate to award the Doolittle Raiders the Congressional Gold Medal. Not each individual Raider, but the group as a whole. A 2/3rds majority is required for the award to happen. If your Rep or Senator has not added their support to the Bills, please drop them a line. Many of us hoped this would happen before this weekend, but....
