So It has taken a while but I have found a 2.8 for my 63 Alpine S3, compression 150 to 155 across all cylinders not bad for a 1995 2.8 out of a Ranger. I still have a couple of days of waiting to receive motor as it has to be shipped from two provinces away. That would be like 6 states or California to Wyoming for you southern members. Time to talk to Dan again and get kit ordered. I have also being talking with engine shops for machining/rebuild of engine and have narrowed it down to 3 shops. Now its time to pick one to start with once I get engine torn down and complete visual. I'm opting to go with 2.8 while someone completes their journey of figuring out the 4.0 swap (go Dan go). Once that is engineered might look at another swap.
I have attached some pictures of what I'm starting with. Its a very solid car with fresh rebuilt engine (430 miles) and some additional parts that came with the car. This will be my first Alpine and first true engine swap. Wish me luck/patience and any advise is welcome

Reg- Got my 2.8 finally rebuilt, biggest issue was finding heads that were not cracked between the intake-exhaust valves. It is usual by the area of the dual exhaust port side. Once that was resolved (by finding another set) things moved along. Got the kit + headers from Dan R, having the headers ceramic coated locally. Kit works very well fitting a V6 in an Alpine. It may also work with others Rootes group autos Super minx, Minx or others that may share the same cradle. The Estate is similar but I am not going to change that setup. Got the T5 & V6 installed a couple of days ago so ready for other fun! There are plenty of others with experience in this area always willing to give advice & tips. (Dan’s the best at it!)

Cradle crossmember with the motor mounts welded on and powder coated. Have the engine/trans assembly on an 1100lb trans jack to put in the Alpine from the bottom. Then put the cradle on after that. A good afternoon project that takes 6 months to get there! I hope it's a typo for the year engine you have coming (85 vs 95).

I agree Series 2 with early hardtop and no wing windows. Can't go by the year on registration. My MGB is 72 but title says 73.

Could very well be a S2 as this is my first Alpine I'm going to have to agree with you. Al the work you have done is very impressive, I hope I'm able to do the same. I have heard about the heads cracking. If they are not cracked intend to drill for added cooling as per Sven Pruett. If cracked I might have to buy new as used is very hard to find in Canada. I have seen new advertised I believe it was Summit, believe I need to find the proper cam cover and water pump. Can anyone tell me if a bell housing from a 85 Ranger that has an internal slave works with a T5. I'm assuming that I will have to upgrade clutch master cylinder

I think Dan is working on shortening the Ranger water pump to work. As for the bellhousing it would be nice if you could make it work. On second thought, the Ranger never had a T5. I think Paul ( pcmenten ) on this board was going to try a later Mustang 4.0 bellhousing. It is getting harder to find the Mustang II parts.

I have found the Alpine clutch master cylinder works fine with Ford clutch slaves. At least all Ranger slaves. Would not be surprised if it were true with all Ford slaves. If in doubt, go to Rock Auto and look up the replacement slave. The description often give the bore size. If it is 5/8" - 3/4", it will be compatible.

Reg, Pinto and Bobcat V6 station wagons 74-78 and 79 Capri have the same parts as Mustang II, car-part.com for wrecking yard search.

Yes I have also been looking for them but in Canada we seem to crush anything that old so that along with our population being smaller we didn't have that many to start with. Thank you for the link I will give it a try I have also been using Hollander.com and row52.com to search. I will more then likely get the majority of parts out of the states as there seems to be more available there. For the engine I stayed inside Canada as shipping cost where as much as the part

The ‘79 Mustang also had the 2.8 V6 in the beginning of the model year. And it already has the rear sump pan.

2005-2009 Mustang 4.0 v6 bellhousing is 3/4" deeper. I think Dan has a spacer that should work if you use the longer input shaft 94 and later T5.
