EV Alpine

Hello...I've pulled 1.792 from my S5 Alpine as need to do rings, gaskets, etc. The idea of conversion to EV kit occured to me. Car is in great condition & going electric could be the answer...Anyone have knowledge or experience doing this ? Thank you...

I think I saw a picture of an MG that had been converted to electric motors and it was towing a trailer with a gas powered generator which supplied the electricity for the motors. Lol

There are at least 2 ev alpines..but they were done in the early 2000s... Ev conversions on classic cars have come a long way since then. There are also conversions that use lowish power motors that are torque limited so that they can be mates to the original gearbox... Lots of interesting options...but personally then the car is just for the style as the engine sound and vibration and the gearbox are huge parts of the character of a classic car

Here is a thread from a few years ago discussing related conversions - also interesting related links to explore.

Design a car for electric from scratch - fine if you are into that. Convert a gas car to EV - you probably won't be happy with the cost or the car. Look up Hot Rod magazine's article on converting their '57 Chevy.

I have a VW kit car that has a Fiero V6 in it right now. I keep thinking of doing that EV conversion for that car. The motor kit is "only" about $7,000. But then you get to the batteries. The last time I looked the price for about 100 miles of batteries was around $12,000. That made no sense to me. And the V6 has air conditioning. I don't know if that exists in the kit EV world for reasonable amounts.

The other thing is exactly what Michael said. I just don't think I'd enjoy never having to shift.

That said, we just purchased a Porsche Macan EV and absolutely love it. Others car just don't compare (for what we have this car for).

I have a EV setup that I pulled out of a 77 Porsche 911, comes with a motor ,controler throttle link , gauges, solenoid, cables, charger and junctions
Controler is for up to 120v dc
I had it working with 4 12v batteries= 48v
And the car operated fine . Just not that fast
Restoring the car back to original Ice
Don't know what it's worth
But it's heavy
Can bring the the stuff to summit point WV.
I will racing at the Jeff 500
Thanks
Rock
