Engine Shake

How much engine shake is considered normal? I know these engines aren't perfectly balanced and they shake as a design 'feature', but how much shake do you need to say 'Ok, this is a problem?' I don't have much experience with this era of 4 cylinders which is why I ask.

My 1725 has some shake it does but it runs fine even tho the idle annoys me since I can't get it anywhere below 900 without it hating the world it lives in.

Have you replaced your engine mounts that were discussed in another thread? As noted in that discussion, the purpose of elastomeric engine mounts is to allow the engine to move without transferring vibration into the chassis.

Waiting for the motor mounts to show up as we speak. Next on my list of things to do.

With the Club Weber Carb set up from Alpine Innovations the tick over will be strong and steady at around 600rpm. The engine in my 1725 car ticks over so smoothly that I can stand a 50p piece on end on it. If everything is running right and in-tune there should be very little shake. It is much the same on the 1592.

Where did you order the mounts .. there was a period where the repros were to stiff and caused vibration.. so watch for that when installing the new ones.
