Here are several photos of the 'under bonnet' situation. Particularly perplexing to me are the relays [?] in Photo 210, the mystery unit in Photo 222, and the cannister in Photo 245 [which connects from the right side of the engine at the bottom of the tappet cover, over the engine and to a petcock assembly on the driver's side].

Looks like your car has been heavily - but not professionally - modified.

Regarding your pictures:

#201 shows the dynamo regulator (correct for S1) but missing the cover
#222 shows the Girling brake servo which was not available for a Series 1. Appearantly retrofitted since there is also a home brewed suction line take off on the Zenith inlet manifold
#245 shows a SeriesV flame trap. Belonging to the SV engine but not to your car. Also wrongly mounted. It should sit at the oil filler take off of the tappet cover.
Other than that weird mod's on your throttle mechanism. Overall nothing which can't be corrected based on the good advise here on the forum..

The brake fluid reservoir is mounted in the correct location but looks to be from a series 5 and the brackets from the valve cover to the carbs looks to be just braces. Maybe their was a problem with the bolts holding the intake to the head and these braces were installed to make a seal? The flame trap should be installed to the oil fill neck on the valve cover and then runs to the air cleaner. Not possible in this case so they must be trying to filter the vapors coming out the side cover. The side cover looks to be for the 1725 due to the angle of the tube so there would be a hose running to the PCV which doesn't exist on these intakes. Since the car has a brake booster I wonder what brake master is on the car. The radiator is also a later unit. Could be it came from the car that the engine was in originally. What are the wires hanging above the voltage regulator?
