Electronic ignition kit

Has anyone installed an electronic ignition kit in a Series II OEM distributor. If so, what brand was used and are you happy with the results? Thanks for any input.

I've got a pertronix kit in both my Series V and my Mk1 Tiger - Work great and no issues with lots of mileage in the alpine over 20+ years . When I first got the tiger the idle was a little lumpy despite everything appearing fine -Installed the Pertronic and immediately the idle was perfect .The only thing that worried me is that if it fails there is no way you can fix it on the side of the road -So I carry a set of points and a condenser in the tool kit (which I have never used) . It takes about 5 mins to install or uninstall the Pertronix unit . I also like the fact that when installed its very hard to spot as all inside the dizzy

Unless you look for the two wires coming out.

Having had points in VWs and old Honda motorcycles it's refreshing not to have another chore. Although I've got the frugal types that say 5000 miles takes you how long to do that mileage.
But he also has the built in magic feeler gauge touch spot on dwell angle adjusting. It always takes me several tries to get in range on the point gap dwell angle. As for the SII I'd put in a Pertronix and move on.

I have a Pertronix Ignitor in my 25D4 and all I do for ease of mind is carry a spare Ignitor still in the box. Same amount of work to swap out Points and Condenser and nothing to gap or dwell. Set it, buy another spare and forget it .

Thanks Scotty. Good advice.

Yep but most people who look under the hood wouldn't spot the two wires - And heck most of the younger generation have no idea how points and condensor work . A few days ago I had a conversaton with a young car nut at work -I went to great pains to explain how primary and secondary ignition systems work and interact -His eyes just glazed over !

Not sure about the stock coil.
I used the recommended Pertronix 40,000 volt 3 Ohm coil from Amazon, I got the chrome one

Pertronix 40601 Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, 40,000 Volt 3 Ohm, 12 Volt, Chrome Epoxy

Pertronix 40611 Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, 40,000 Volt 3 Ohm, 12 Volt, Black

The original coil for cars shipping to North America would have come with a 1.5 ohm coil, since they had a ballast resistor + cold weather starting circuit. After all these years you probably don't have the original coil anymore.
