Just woundering if anyone has installed an electric water pump on the Ford 2.8 V6? Not sure if it can be done due to the lower water pump hose and radiador lower outlet being so close, but maybe there is a way.

Use an old water pump to make a blanking plate. You would need another smaller pump for the bypass when the engine is heating up due to the fact that the thermostat is low and not high ..... I did look into this....

Bruce, There is a provision in the V6 water system where the thermostat could be installed in the "top" where the water neck is bolted to the intake manifold.

Sure, we normally mount the thermostat in the lower position but why not on top??

Did you consider the top when you were trying to do an electric pump ?

The 86 Aerostar had a thermostat housing on the top that is what I use but if you use the offenhauser manifold you will need to make an adapter plate as the manifold is 2 bolt and the 86 housing is 3 or the other way around

Dan, The early 2.8's had three bolt water necks and the OFY adopted that design in their 4 bbl intakes. Later 2.8's had the 2 bolt design.

Then it is 3 on the manifold and 2 on the thermostat housing( I was to lazy to go to the garage and look) regardless it needs an adapter and I welded a filler neck to the top to fill the rad and motor as it is now the high spot it also changes the location of the bypass hose and the heater hose as well

You have to copy the 86 Aerostar 2.8 or all of the 2.9 V6 for hose routing. You need the bypass hooked up. Everyone I know that eliminated it has overheating issues.

I am running a 2.8 from a 86 Areostar and the bypass is relocated to the thermostat housing and you plug the old bypass that went to the manifold also on the housing it has a heater hose outlet . The filler neck rad cap also has a temp gauge. I will get a pic of it and post when mt son shows up to work on his 61 Impala wagon tomorrow (computer illiterate )

I’m sorry, but I guess since you know how it is set up, it’s obvious. How is the bypass done?
Is the thermostat at the top?

Dan, Did you cut into your firewall and sit the engine back a bit farther than what most of the V6 Guys do?

I sure would like to see more pictures of your conversion.
