Can anyone tell me the difference between early and late model seat frames? I have a set of late series seats.. Can these be upholstered to look like the early series Seats?

Early seat frame

Kevin,
Only your upholsterer knows. The early ones are sort of flat while the later ones are sort of molded to your body. I would just redo the set you have as they are and bolt them in. I run SIII seats in my SII and no one knows the difference. The later ones are way more comfortable and adjustable. The early ones don't fold down and back like yours. The first picture shows SI with an SII behind it. The second shows a SIV seat with light green piping that some say does not exist.

Kevin,

The frames are quite different which is one thing, but the other issue is they use different shaped foams and suspending systems. The late cars have a bucketed base and backrest foam, the early series seats have almost a flat base cushion with a raised thigh support. The early cars use a spring system for support and the later cars uses rubber straps and then later a rubber diaphragm.

The early foams would not fit a late seat, you could cut some foams for your late seats with a flat bottom squab and then use a separate raised front squab and they would look similar to the early series seats, but really what you are doing is making the late series seats less comfortable and less supporting.
