Correct Clutch Fluid for Early Alpine

Best for what? Your 1963 HLM would have left the factory with DOT 3 glycol-ether based brake and clutch fluid. DOT 4 is compatible and provides somewhat higher wet / dry boiling points. Either DOT 3 or DOT 4 (or a mixture) is fine for street use. If you are going racing, DOT 5.1 is compatible with both DOT 3 and DOT 4 and offers even higher wet / dry boiling points. DOT 5 silicone fluid (NOT the same as DOT 5.1) is sometimes used for trailer queen show cars because it does not absorb moisture or ruin paint like DOT 3/4/5.1.
