Bimini Top.

I just finished building this sun shade Bimini top for my Alpine. Keeps the buffeting down when driving on the highway too. Material is outdoor mesh used for patio furniture seats and umbrellas.

Looks veryy neat!

Warren, it looks like the standard soft top piece had to be utilized for such a great fit.

Would like to know more about had it is fitted together. Would definitely consider that for my Red GT.

Hope mike O'D post more....

Correct Warren, I used pieces from a beat-up spare top frame - the header and one of the bows. I'll post a bunch more pictures with additional description when I get a chance.

After driving in 115 stop and go black interior black car heater on to add cooling area to a 200 degree cooling system been on my idea list. My changes would be Sunbrella boat sail cover fabric that mocks the look of canvas. I have saved several header bows for the idea ever since I saw an MGA with a similar set up. The next best would be a regular top with a built in zip down rear window like many convert's of the same vintage with that *"@#$ plastic window.

I made a “bikini” top as well out of solar screen material. In Texas, it does a great job of making the cockpit tolerable in 100 degree days. Granted, mine does not look as good as the example on this post, but it works well. I too, used the stock header with original clamps and mounts on the rear to the roll bar.

Some more photos. I kind of engineered this on the fly, so I'm sure there are other ways to do it. The back bow is the pivoting bow from a soft top frame. I cut the ends off and welded on a socket that fit the uprights. For the uprights I used 1/2" dia. aluminum rod - because I had access to some. Some kind of tubing would work fine too. The side supports are made of 2 pieces of bent sheet metal tack welded together. Tubing would work for these as well. Side pieces are hinged at the front so they fold in. They are mounted to a bracket on the front bow - unscrewed the socket fitting, made a bracket to fit under it, and screwed the fitting back down to secure it. The upright brackets/sockets are screwed to door frame behind the seats. Picture of the top material held up to the light (91% sun block mesh) and laying on the ground.

Very nice, Mike. Sure lends ideas to the GT Alpine. I would like to get one of these for my Red GT V6
