Dear fellow Sunbeamers,

We would like to invite you to attend the 2009 Sunbeam Car Club of New Zealand’s 2009 Tour to help us celebrate 50 Years of the Alpine and 45 Years of the Tiger.

The tour is to be held during the month of February 2009.

We will assemble on Wednesday February 18th for a welcome dinner in Picton the town known as the gateway to the South Island, and spend 9 days touring the delights of the Southern half of New Zealand.

We will drive down the wild untamed West Coast, take in the interior of Central Otago and, the cosmopolitan town that is Queenstown before finishing with the Concours and Farewell dinner in Christchurch on Saturday February 28th.

Further details of the tour can be obtained by looking at our website, www.sunbeamcarclubofnewzealnd.org.nz. Where you will find an expression of interest form.

Why not have a summer holiday in New Zealand and incorporate our 2009 Tour in your travels.

Happy Sunbeaming.

Tour Destinations

Come and sample the delights of the South Island of New Zealand where adventure is a way of life.

Starting at Picton you will experience the quaint waterfront village that is the gateway to the South Island. Snuggled between the hills and the sea on the shores of Queen Charlotte Sound. You can just imagine what Captain James Cook saw in the 1770’s when he returned time and time again to Ships Cove to clean his boats.

You will drive “The West Coast Highway” named one of the best road trips in the world by the “Lonely Planet Guide 2006-07 and view the Wild West Coast capturing the imagination with breathtaking views of the ocean with its miles of untamed coastline and native bush. The southern West Coast is a UNESCO world Heritage sight for it’s uniqueness as a special place in the world.

Stay overnight in Westport, Greymouth and Haast and find out what is meant by Coast hospitality.

Although it earlier prospered through Gold, Westport is the country’s only successful mined source of bituminous coal.

View the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, heavily layered limestone that has weathered to resemble giant pancakes. This is accentuated by the blowholes that activate at high tide and spray plumes of sea water high into the air.

Spend two nights in the Adventure Capital of the World, Queenstown. The town of Queenstown is nestled beside the mysterious Lake Wakatipu in the Southern Lakes District, It is a cosmopolitan haven offering limitless adventure, wine and cuisine along with breathtaking scenery.

We will drive the Upper Clutha Valley deep in the heart of the dry interior of Central Otago, in the landscape of bare hills of tussocks and briar, beside the pristine waters of Lake Dustan.

Two nights will be spent in New Zealand’s oldest city, Dunedin, which is widely regarded as the best preserved Victorian and Edwardian Heritage City in the southern hemisphere. It also boasts the steepest street in the world and has the only mainland breeding colony of the Royal Albatross as well as the rarest penguins in the world.

A night staying in the town of Twizel that was constructed in 1968 as a base for the Upper Waitaki Power Scheme in the heart of the McKenzie Country with it’s stunning views of Mount Cook, dramatic landscapes and beautiful turquoise Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki.

We will finish the tour in New Zealand’s garden city, Christchurch, celebrated for its architecture, museums and gardens.
Christchurch has been voted one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the world, you can have a meal in one of the trendy cafes beside the River Avon or take a ride around the city on a tram.

I think I would go to this if they changed the date to Good Friday 10th - Easter Sunday 12th April, 2009?
Then I could visit the Omaka airfield, Blenheim, New Zealand and see the best airshow on Earth :D
