Abusive Posts

We recently had a very abusive post attacking another Member. The Officers of the Club handled it per the By Laws, deleted and warned, etc. That is what they should do and did. Too bad that they had to do that as this is not what this site is about.
Please read the By Laws regarding this type of stuff. There is never a definable line that says this is stupid but not horrible and over the top, but like porno, You know it when you see it. I think the Members should consider adding a line that basically says that it a post is considered abusive, the poster can be banned on the spot and we are done with him. (Safeguards and appeals in place, etc)

SAOCA is about Sunbeams not dealing with this stuff. The Officers that just left got sick of it and I will be the new crew will also. Probably are by now anyway, I know I am. Not why I volunteered.

Something like this: SAOCA encourages interaction in the form of commenting on status updates, photos, links, etc. Please do so responsibly. If the comment is inappropriate, obscene, discriminatory or defamatory in any way, SAOC reserves the right to remove any posts, comments, images or viewers/users of the page.

Tracy; may I be the first to agree. Sunbeams for the most part are a hobbie for us, tied into a love of the car. Glad you signed up.

Agree. I'm the senior moderator on another site - boating related - and we have a similar, though perhaps more detailed policy. Here it is, below, with the name of the website redacted.

Perhaps this is helpful.
Cheers,
Kevin

===========================================================
The xxxxxxxxxxx.com Discussion Board is here to provide a place for [boat] owners and enthusiasts to meet and to discuss topics relating to [brand x boats] and sailing in general. Most people have a common sense feel for what is and what is not appropriate in our forums and most board members generally do a great job of policing themselves. We do, however, need to have a few set policies for everyone to refer to when the need arises.

Board Member Expectations and Guidelines

Respect the Discussion Board Administrators and Moderators. We provide a service in our free time to keep the forum running efficiently. We will occasionally ask for input, but in some cases we will not, please respect our decisions. Also, we do edit for content, if you have an issue with our moderation, please contact the Administrator or Moderator directly. Posts to the Discussion Board questioning or complaining about Moderator or Administrator activity will be deleted.

Profanity: Mild profanity/swearing is allowed in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity/swearing is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Posts containing profanity may be edited at the discretion of the moderators.

Flaming And Condescending Messages: Messages personally attacking, calling names, or otherwise harassing or being condescending to another forum member or any ethnic or religious group will be edited or removed based on the moderators decision.

Adult Content/Violence/Illegal Activity: Messages containing sexually oriented/violent/illegal dialog, images, content, or links to such will be deleted. Messages with links to or suggesting illegal activity will also be deleted. These actions could result in a ban.

Thread Drifting/Steering: Please keep discussions on topic. Off-topic discussions belong in the "Members Pub".

For Sale/Wanted Notices: Classified ads belong in the Classified Ads section of the website not on the Discussion Board.

Avatars should be kept clean and inclusive of all people. No porn, racist images, or otherwise offensive images.

Please remember that these forums are inclusive of ALL people, and we strive to maintain accessibility to everyone.

The "Members Pub" is a more lightly-moderated section of the forum for discussions of things not related to [brand x] sailboats or sailing in general. This forum is not archived for long-term storage and old threads will be automatically deleted. Off-topic posts in the other forums may be moved here. While more lightly-moderated, posts in this forum are still subject to the restrictions above at the Moderators' discretion. Classified ads and other spam are not allowed in the Members Pub.

Anybody who can live within these rules is welcome to participate on the Discussion Board. Members who abuse the rules will be warned by the administrators or moderators. Repeat or flagrant offenders may be banned from the board. If you cannot live within the rules please go someplace else.

Keep an open mind: Sometimes you will be faced with a thread you might not agree with it's imperative you keep an open mind towards all inclusive people and a neutral focus when replying. It is our duty to steer the conversations back into a positive nature.

Images: Please limit the number of images that you include in a post to three. If you want to show more images, please post a link to your online photo album directly. Otherwise, pages are just too slow to load for people without high-speed connections.

For the record, the SAOCA policy also includes PM's. We've had issues in the past where abusive PM's have been sent to Users and this additional type of behavior won't be tolerated.
