Looks like a Ford Lima (aka, OHC) 2.3 turbo. Certainly not 300 HP in junkyard stock form as shown in the pictures.

I was admiring the missing front core support, the hacked upper firewall and the inner fender surgery. Also something going on with the front cruciform extensions.

From what I found on the 2.3 turbo engine.

The 2.3L Ford EcoBoost turbo engine has a horsepower rating that varies depending on the specific application, but it generally falls between 270 and 330 horsepower. For example, in the Ford Ranger, it produces 270 horsepower. In the Ford Mustang, the 2.3L EcoBoost with the High Performance Package delivers 330 horsepower.
That project needs a lot of lovin'.
Agree with Jan, too much has been cut out. There is no telling why you would keep it a 4 cyl and screw up the steering by not leaving the excellent Alpine steering geometry.

This thread is about an "Alpine" with a Ford Lima turbo 2.3 SOHC 2-valve engine from 40 years ago, not a current Ford 2.3 EcoBoost DOHC 4-valve engine.

It does look like they cut the front frame rails to fit the mustang suspension. I'm thinking the entire nose is now held up by that little bit of inner fender that remains.

Yeah. . I was looking for a how'd they make the Mutt II front end fit...
Too bad no pictures of what got whacked...
